Governor P. Sathasivam, Chancellor of universities in the State, has decided that the selection process for the Chancellor’s Award will be continued through the State government.

A meeting in his regard was held with the Education Minister and Secretary of Higher Education, following which the decision was conveyed to the Chief Minister.

The selection committee, which will be constituted by the State government, will submit recommendations for the awards for the best university and emerging young university to the Chancellor for final approval.

The awards will be presented by the Chancellor at a ceremony to be held in December.

₹5-crore award

The Chancellor’s Award of ₹5 crore had been instituted in 2015 with the objective of nurturing the spirit of healthy competition among State universities. It helped the universities in documenting their achievements systematically and also in performing well in the NIRF rankings and NAAC accreditation. While four universities figured in the NIRF rankings last year, the number of universities with A grade in NAAC accreditation has also gone up.

The award of ₹1 crore for the best emerging young university has been launched. The funds for the awards are given by the government.
