The seat-sharing exercise of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) for the civic body elections is nearing completion. The discussions in this regard were held at the office of the CPI(M) district committee on Friday.
While the CPI (M) will contest in 20 divisions in the Thiruvananthapuram district panchayat, the CPI and the Janata Dal (Secular) have been allotted four and two seats respectively. In the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, the CPI (M) will contest in 71 wards.
The other seats will be shared by CPI (18), JD (S) [3], Congress (S), Kerala Congress, Communist Marxist Party (CMP), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Indian National League and Janadhipathya Samrakshana Samithi (all being allotted one seat each). Two wards will be reserved for LDF independent candidates. The discussions pertaining to the seat-sharing for elections to the municipalities, block, and grama panchayats were under way and neared completion in the respective areas. CPI(M) district secretary Kadakampally Surendran presided over the meeting.
LDF district convener V. Gangadharan Nadar, CPI district secretary G.R. Anil and V. Sivankutty, MLA, were among those who participated in the discussions.
94 nominations
A total of 94 nominations were received by the district administration on Friday.
Of these, 64 nominations were filed by male candidates.
The nominations were made for the polls being held to the Neyyattinkara municipality (2), Nemom block panchayat (2), Kilimanoor block panchayat (1) and various grama panchayats (89).
An anti-defacement squad was formed for wards 76 to 100 of the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation on Friday.
The District Electoral Officer has said that the public can give complaints regarding violation of the model code of conduct by contacting 9495521219 (Dharmarajan), 9747005163 (A. Anil) or 9447205162 (Suresh).
