Scope for tourism to aim high

Steps to double foreign tourist arrivals, increase domestic tourist arrivals at least by 25 per cent, and generate 4 lakh jobs in the tourism sector have been announced in the revised 2016-17 budget.

Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac earmarked Rs.400 crore from the special package for developing roads, transport facilities, electricity, drinking water, and wayside amenities in 20 destinations, including Dharmadam-Muzhappilangad, Kannur Fort-Arakkal Palace, Karappuzha-Wayanad tourism hub, Chethi-Mararikulam, Thrissur-Guruvayur-Palayur tourism circuit, Veli Tourist Village second phase, Akkulam and Ponnani.
