The director board of Vizhinjam International Seaport Ltd (VISL) has approved the revised master plan for the port seeking to bring about changes in the shipping channel to facilitate operation of 18,000 teu capacity vessels and earmark the 300-metre area between the proposed port and the existing fishing harbour for fishing operations.

Noting the objections voiced by various sections, the board decided to secure the report of the IFC. The board decided to approach the Centre for relaxation in cabotage norms. Once the environmental clearance was received, EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) tenders would be called for. The board will leave these issues for consideration of the Empowered Committee.
