The Rangaprabhath Children’s theatre will be organising a seven day-long National Children’s Theatre Festival from September 25 to October 1, in connection with the 10th annual commemoration of K.Kochunarayana Pillai, the founder President of Rangaprabhath. This is the ninth edition of the festival, organised with the assistance of the Ministry of Culture.

TourismMinister Kadakampally Surendran will inaugurate the festival on September 25 at 6.30 p.m. ‘Poovan Kozhi Muttayittu’, directed by Alinthara.G.Krishna Pillai, is the opening play. The second day begins with speech on children’s theatre by R.B.Rajalakshmi. ‘River of Butterflies’, a Tamil play directed by G.Vijayakumar, will be staged after that.

Gireesh Sopanam will deliver a lecture of ‘theatre and Natya Dharma on the third day. ‘The exchange student’, an English play directed by Trishla Patel, is the play for the day. On the fourth day, Aliyar will deliver a speech on modern Malayalam theatre. There are two plays lined up for the day - ‘Marupattu’, a Malayalam play directed by Rajesh Manathana and ‘Kitta Puranam’ directed by Manoj Narayanan.

On the fifth day, Raja Varier will deliver a lecture on amateur theatre. The two plays for the day are ‘Koodumattam’, a Malayalam play directed by Joshy Mathew and ‘Where is Childhood’, Telegu play directed by M.Lekshmi Kiran. The sixth day begins with a lecture on theatre and women by J.Shylaja. The play for the day is ‘Lalach Buri Bala’, a Hindi play directed by Prem Gupta.

A.Sampath MP will inaugurate the closing ceremony of the festival on October 1. The function will be followed by the staging of the play ‘Kunjunniyude Yathra Pusthakam’, which received the Central Sahitya Akademi award for 2016.
