A rail fracture at Punnamoodu near Varkala on the Kollam-Thiruvananthapuram section gave anxious moments to Railways and train commuters on Friday morning.

The fracture was noticed by local people who reported it to the railway officials. The officials used fish plate to couple the broken rail temporarily and to resume the train operations to Thiruvananthapuram.

Rail replaced

Later, a 13-metre-long rail was rushed to the spot and the rail was replaced.

Railway sources said a passenger train was delayed by around 20 minutes because of the incident.
