A police team led by S. Suresh Kumar, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Neyyattinkara), raided an illegal quarry near Vellarada and seized 16 lorries early Tuesday.

According to the police, the quarry, which functioned mostly in the night, was operated by one Jayan. It had no permits from any department concerned. The police had received complaints against the functioning of the quarry, located near Kakkathookkimala, close to Kurishumala. The police had kept a watch on the activities at the quarry before raiding the premises on Tuesday. “We have seized 16 lorries, which were plying for the quarry,” Mr. Suresh Kumar said.
