A classy and elegant-looking multipurpose stadium having facility to accommodate up to 1,000 spectators will come up in an acre of land adjoining the Pulippara-Anand road at Nedumangad.
Boon to schools
The stadium, aimed at hosting events such as volleyball and badminton, will be a boon to local schools and colleges, which at present struggle to find space to organise sporting events.
A project of the Nedumangad municipality, the stadium will have two courts, a players’ amenity room, an amphitheatre for children, a separate enclosure for screening events live, a children’s park, and a food court. The gallery will be covered with lightweight structures, S. Ravindran, chairman of the Works standing committee, said.
The piling work for the project, he said, had been completed.
The project, conceived during the past financial year, would be completed by the end of this fiscal. It was estimated to cost around Rs.2 crore and would be funded by the World Bank.
Athul Nair, the architectural consultant appointed by the municipality, said the stadium would be a perfect blend of greenery and magnificent structure.
The children’s park, which would come up adjacent to the stadium, would be provided with a green cover.
“An attempt has been made to design the stadium in a way to provide a series of visual experiences for the visitors.
This experience will include the amphitheatre as an active zone for events; it is situated close to the main ticket counter and can work as the spillover area for spectators from the stadium,” he said.
