Five rebel Congress councillors of the Varkala municipality on Saturday staged a demonstration at the municipality office to press for fresh presentation of the budget. Municipality secretary Samji David told The Hindu that the rebel members had given a representation expressing their disapproval of the way the council met on Friday. The council meeting had witnessed unruly scenes with members entering into a physical fight. In the melee, acting chairman Biju Gopal had presented the budget. The rebel members had questioned its validity, he said.
