Probe political links of graft: VS

January 30, 2013 10:00 am | Updated 10:00 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan has sought a comprehensive investigation into the political angle of the defence deal involving top functionaries of the public sector Steel Industrial Forgings Limited (SIFL).

Mr. Achuthanandan told a news conference here on Tuesday that a comprehensive investigation was essential to bring out the identity of all persons involved in the deal, particularly in the light of news reports that a prominent leader linked with the State government was the person who had assisted Subi Mally, the go between in the deal.

The Opposition Leader said it was mysterious that the State government did nothing to fix responsibility on receipt of information that a State public enterprise was involved in an illegal and corrupt deal. The ongoing CBI investigation was focused on the role of the former SIFL managing director’s role in the deal. But the role of those who had introduced him to the agent should also be probed, he added.
