Pothencode sub-inspector (SI) Ashwini Kumar has been transferred to the office of the District Police Chief (Thiruvananthapuram rural).

The action comes in the wake of allegations of high-handedness by the police at a Dalit colony recently.

Mr. Kumar had led a police team to the Kuravalla colony at Pothencode claiming that they had information on certain anti-social elements frequenting the area. The police also said that they had instructions from the Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights to visit the colony following complaints that the children of the colony were being denied formal education. After an argument with a few youths, allegedly activists of the Dalit Human Rights Movement, the police allegedly assaulted a few, including senior citizens, who had gathered there.

A protest march was taken out to the office of the Attingal Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy.SP) demanding action against the officer.
