Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday said he would not allow politicisation of the police force.
Speaking at a Kerala Police Officer’s Association function here, Mr. Vijayan said all officers and men might have their own political inclinations. But, it should not reflect in their duties or association work. The government had accorded organisational freedom to the police force to protect their rights as State employees. Such freedom might get curtailed if they led to over-politicisation.
The government did not adhere to the view that those involved in police association-related activities had some special protection and should be exempted from everyday work.
The police should set a model for society by doing organisational work without giving up on their duties. He said the government was committed to increasing women representation in the force. He honoured association general secretary K. Manikantan Nair, who was due for retirement. SPC Loknath Behera, DGP A. Hemachandran, IG Manoj Abraham, City Police Commissioner G. Sparjan Kumar, and SP, Rural, Shefeen Ahmed, were present.
