Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar on Thursday said the government was actively considering an Oushadhi Panchakarma Hospital at Muttathara.

Inaugurating a medicine-manufacturing factory of Oushadhi at Muttathara here, he said the construction of the hospital was under the active consideration of the government.

Since its inception in 1941, the public sector undertaking had expanded its reach within the State and outside. The firm now supplied Ayurveda products in 17 States and had 600 agents. The firm’s turnover now stood at Rs.100 crore and last year alone it had handed over to the government Rs.10 crore as profit share. Last year, it had generated sales revenue of Rs.83 crore, he said.

Spread over an acre

The new factory, spread over one acre of land, had been constructed at a cost of Rs.20 crore. The setting up of the Sewage Treatment Plant at Muttathara had paved the way for the development of the area, he said. A slew of projects had been implemented in the area. Next week, the building for engineering college of the Cooperative Academy for Professional Education would be inaugurated at Muttathara, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, chairman of Oushadhi, Johny Nellore said the new factory would start functioning by April-end. Initially, medicines for treating lifestyle diseases would be produced in the new factory. A dormitory and an auditorium had been set up on the factory premises, he said.
