The core of a nation’s development is made of citizens who set aside rivalry and enmity and strive for world peace, Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Bandu Athawale has said.

He was delivering the inaugural address at the formal declaration of the World Peace Conference, jointly organised by the International Interfaith Dialogue India and Magic Planet.

Those belonging to diverse religions and speaking different languages should co-exist, and eventually come to the realisation that the nation is above such differences, Mr. Athawale said.

On the occasion, singer K.J. Yesudas conducted the formal declaration of the conference through a magic trick. Upon Dr. Yesudas piercing a balloon with the phrases ‘religious intolerance,’ ‘injustice,’ ‘violence’ and ‘evil’ inscribed on it, a dove appeared in its place, symbolising what it takes to achieve world peace. The World Peace Conference will be held in December. Magician Gopinath Muthukad and International Interfaith Dialogue India chairman P. K. Shamsudeen were present at the event.
