One killed, 8 injured in accident

A 63-year-old man was killed after the jeep he was travelling in collided with a car at Kilimanoor on Friday morning. Eight other persons were injured in the accident.

The police said the deceased had been identified as Rajappan Chettiar from Naranganam at Kozhencherry, Pathanamthitta. He was on his way to the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport along with his family to receive his son. The accident occurred near the Kilimanoor junction by around 5.30 a.m. The passengers in the car were going to Pathanamthitta after dropping a relative at the airport.

Those injured in the head-on collision have been identified as Omanakuttan, 48; Rajan, 41; Sumarajan, 35; Jyothi, 33; Biju, 42; Prakash, 31; Kannan and Rakhi, both aged 10, the police said. They have been admitted at a private hospital at Venjaramoodu.

As per preliminary investigation, both vehicles were speeding. Rajappan Chettiar was declared dead at the hospital.

Those injured are out of danger, the police said. A case has been registered in connection with the incident.
