On a mission to spread awareness of web security

: The Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP), a non-profit organisation, is all set to conduct its Kerala chapter meeting on Wednesday.

The programme, which will be held at the Central Computing Facility at the Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, Kerala (IIITM-K) on the Technopark campus, will be attended by web security enthusiasts, ethical hackers and web developers.

According to Rejah Rehim, leader of the Kerala chapter, the prime objective of the organisation is to generate knowledge in the avenue of web security and to propagate awareness of open-source software.

The programme will have sessions handled by information security specialists on various topics such as secure coding practices and working of Trojan virus, a type of malware that is often disguised as legitimate software.

Mr. Rehim added that the programmes that are conducted by the organisations witness participation of those belonging to various age groups, ranging from school students to senior corporate professionals.

The OWASP has functioned closely with the Cyberdome of the Kerala Police. They have worked to detect vulnerabilities in government websites and enhance web security in such cases.

The programme will be attended by web security enthusiasts, ethical hackers and web developers.
