The All Kerala Private College Teachers’ Association (AKPCTA) has urged the government to institute a comprehensive probe into the functioning of the National Service Scheme (NSS) cell at the University of Kerala and the activities of the NSS coordinator.

In a statement, AKPCTA president A.G. Oleena and general secretary K.L. Vivekanandan highlighted the ‘major lapses’ that had been cited by the NSS regional director in a letter that had been sent to the Vice Chancellor in August 2016. ‘However, the VC was yet to adopt any steps to address the issue and walked out of the last Syndicate meeting without offering any response when the matter was raised for discussion. His stance strengthened suspicion regarding his alleged attempts to protect the NSS coordinator S. Venu Mohan,” they claimed.

‘No official records’

According to them, there were no official records regarding the numbers of affiliating units or the enrolled students. Besides, the NSS coordinator of the university has failed to submit annual reports to the NSS regional directorate during the last two years. “Such aspects pointed towards the high possibility of irregularities in the functioning of the NSS cell. Despite being informed that the cell did not adhere to the guidelines of either the Central government or the university, the VC has refused to initiate any action,” they said.
