Roads at Pazhavangadi were filooded by the heavy rain that lashed Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday.

Heavy rain lashed the district all through the day on Sunday, causing damages at a few places.

The shutters of the Neyyar dam were opened in the afternoon, after water crossed the holding capacity of 84.75 metres. The district administration has issued warnings to those residing on both sides of the Karamana river as there are chances of the Peppara dam’s shutters being opened. The sandbar near the Veli estuary has been cut open to facilitate the flow of flood water.

Low-lying areas in the city, including S.S. Koil Road, Central Theatre Road, and Kannammoola, experienced waterlogging. But, compared to the situation after the rain last week, the water drained off faster from the Thampanoor area. The Irrigation Department and the city Corporation had removed more than 60 loads of waste from the drains and canals in the city over the past week. This seems to have aided the quick draining of flood water on Sunday.

Seven trees were uprooted in the city. At the General Hospital, a tree was uprooted near Ward 7. Trees inside the Legislative Assembly complex, inside the Vikas Bhavan, and on the campus of Government Higher Secondary School, Manacaud, were also uprooted.

At Nanthancode, a car was completely damaged after the boundary wall of a house fell on it.
