New scheme for women

The Kudumbasree Mission will launch a new venture, Punarjani, to support indigent and marginalised women on November 1, Minister for Social Welfare M.K. Muneer has said.

Dr. Muneer told reporters here on Thursday that the new scheme would cover widows, unwed mothers, divorcees, differently abled women, and victims of domestic violence aged between 35 and 50 years. As many as 5,000 women would be covered in the first phase.

He said beneficiaries had been identified and training in various trades was progressing.

Certificates approved by the National Council for Vocational Training and Sector Skill Council would be issued to those completing the training. Each beneficiary would get at least Rs.6,000 per month. Job opportunities had been ensured. Recruitment would be held at block panchayats.

The Minister will launch the scheme at Ernakulam.
