A gala cultural programme showcasing the rich cultural heritage of ‘God’s own country’ will bring the curtain down on the annual training camp of 2 Kerala Battalion National Cadet Corps (NCC) here on Friday.
A total of 600 NCC girl and boy cadets from nearly five colleges and 10 schools in Thiruvananthapuram district, along with 50 support staff of Army personnel, Associate NCC Officers, and civilian staff, are taking part in the camp, which began on April 30 at the Government V&HSS for the Deaf at Jagathy.
The camp is held to impart quality training to the cadets in drill, weapon training, firing, map reading, and other military subjects. During the camp, various competitions were organised in quiz, elocution, and cultural activities to spot potential cadets who will be fielded for the Thal Sainik Camp and the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi. Intensive firing practice will be given to the selected cadets to field them in the all-India Mavlankar Shooting Competition. Cadets will also be selected to represent Kerala in national integration camps outside the State. The cadets will also undertake a tree-planting drive and a blood donation camp.
B.S. Corrie, Principal Conservator of Forest, Kerala, took a class on ‘Forest and environment.’ He told the students that forestation was the only way to preserve the inhabitants of the green earth.
On May 9, selected cadets will participate in a seminar-cum-workshop at the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology at Jagathy to commemorate World Technology Day.
Addressing the cadets, Lieutenant Colonel P.J. Simon, Officiating Group Commander of Thiruvananthapuram NCC Group and Commanding Officer, 2 Kerala Battalion, NCC, exhorted them to excel in all fields and uphold the NCC motto of ‘Unity and discipline.’
