‘My Home, Sweet Home’ winners honoured

Governor P. Sathasivam has said there is an urgent need to encourage environment-friendly construction in the current times. He was speaking after presenting the awards to the winners of the SBI-The Hindu Propertyplus ‘My Home, Sweet Home Contest 2015’.

“Now, not only the urban areas, but the rural areas too have become concrete jungles. I hope this initiative of The Hindu Propertyplus and the SBI will encourage some competitive spirit in the use of innovative practices in construction sector,” said Justice Sathasivam.

The Governor reminisced his college days and said he regularly subscribed to The Hindu then to equip himself for his career ahead.

The Hindu organised the contest for homeowners from October 2015 to January 2016 under the auspices of the sub-brand Properyplus.

The objective of the event was to recognise and promote innovative and environment-friendly designs and concepts in construction of homes and interiors. Entries were invited in two categories - independent villa and apartment interiors.

The evaluation of the over 150 entries from across Kerala was under the direct supervision of N. Mahesh, principal architect of Iyer and Mahesh, who was the jury chief. Jury panel included leading and experienced architects, including B. Sudhir, Murali, interior designers Jayakumari and Chandralekha Jaychandran, celebrity homemaker Lakshmi Nair, apart from The Hin du bureau chief C. Gouridasan Nair and senior general manager K.K. Joshy.

Shenuga Jaithilak and Jaithilak of Green Ripples Villa at Elamakkara in Kochi won the award in the independent villa category. Hashim and Amina of Greens Villa in Kozhikode won the first runner-up award. Thasni Abdul Salam and Abdul Salam of Karaparamba in Kozhikode won the second runner-up award. Abdul Hameed of Abdul Hameed Consultants in Kozhikode won the special honour for the architect of winning entry.

A.M.Sajeed and Janis Naha of Seiken Crestwood Apartments in Kozhikode won the award for apartment interiors. Poonam Noufal and Noufal C. Hashim of Apollo Emerald in Kozhikode won the first runner-up award. Janis Naha won the special honour for the designer of winning entry.

The winner of the contest under each category received a citation and a gift worth Rs.1 lakh, the first runner-up a citation and a gift worth Rs.50,000, and the second runner-up a citation and a gift worth Rs.15,000 and a holiday package. Special architect/ designer of the winning entries received a citation and holiday package.

J. Jayakumar, Principal, CAT College; Badal Chandra Das, Chief General Manager of State Bank of India; Sandeep Surana, managing director (India) of Hansgrohe; J. Vijayan, director of Indroyal group; Girish Menon, Deputy Editor; Shankar Subramaniam, South Head, and Mr.Joshy of The Hindu group spoke. N.Harikumar, Senior Deputy Regional Manager (Advertisement) delivered the vote of thanks.

The event was sponsored by the State Bank of India (presenting sponsor), Hansgrohe (home solutions partner), Institute of Indian Interior Designers (technical advisor), CAT College of Architecture (evaluation partner), and Indroyal Home Spaces (gift sponsor).
