Workers of the Kerala Water Authority on Sunday completed the task of interconnecting a pipeline with the pumping main line coming from Arvuvikkara to the reservoir at the Obversatory Hill.

According to PH division Executive Engineer Suresh Chandran, this was done to source more water to the Kowdiar area in general and to reach more water to parched Jawahar Nagar in particular.

Workers installed a 200 mm PVC line at the entrance to the Kanaka Nagar close to Vellayambalam traffic circle. Vehicular traffic on the road was diverted to facilitate the interconnection. The supply of drinking water to Kowdiar and adjoining areas was disrupted for more than a day consequent to the interconnection work.

Another leak that engaged the attention of the KWA on Saturday and Sunday was on an HDPE line near the Bakery Junction. The line originating from the Observatory Hill reservoir was laid as part of the Theerapadham scheme. According to Mr. Chandran, this line had sprung repeated leaks in the recent past.

“We had cut away one section of the HDPE line hoping to stem the leak. But then another leak sprang up in another section of the line that appears to be of low quality. Now we have readied ourselves to replace multiple sections of this line,” he said.

The supply of water to Bakery Junction and adjoining areas was hit due to the repair work on the leaking line.
