Official vehicles of the Ministers and senior IAS officials will have to display registration marks in the front and rear along with the serial numbers of the State.
State Transport Commissioner Tomin J. Thachankary has written to the Secretary, General Administration Department, pointing out Section 39 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and Rule 50 and 51 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 that specifies the display of registration marks, size of letters and numerals.
Only for Governor
The commissioner, who is spearheading the ‘Operation Boss’ against misuse of the Kerala State nameboards on the government vehicles, has pointed out that only the Governor can use the red beacon with flasher on top and all other vehicles using it should remove them.
‘Remove flags’
The commissioner has also written to the Chief Secretary asking him to direct IAS and other civil service officials to remove the flags used by them in their official vehicles as no government order has been issued in this regard.
The State Transport Commissioner, who is of the ADGP grade, has removed the stars used in his car. The Joint Transport Commissioner,
Enforcement, has also removed the multi-coloured light atop his vehicle, sources said.
