Opposition Corporation councillors on Wednesday slammed the government for what they termed its failure to provide adequate infrastructural facilities for Sabarimala pilgrims reaching the city.

Inaugurating a dharna by the councillors in front of the Secretariat, CPI(M) district secretary Kadakampally Surendran said the Corporation and various other organisations had, for some time now, demanded that adequate facilities be put in place for the pilgrims. This was in view of the fact that an unprecedented number of pilgrims was expected to reach the city. The government was unable to do this, he said.

Mayor K. Chandrika said that the government had just installed 25 street taps. and drafted 200 home guards

V. Sivankutty, MLA, has in a press note issued here demanded that the government allocate Rs. 50 lakh for the development of the parking-cum-resting facility at the Attukal temple ground.
