Maramon convention begins on February 11

To be held on the Pampa riverbed

Maramon Convention, billed Asia’s largest annual Christian religious congregation, will be held at Maramon, near Kozhencherry, from February 11 to 18.

The century-old meet is organised by the Mar Thoma Evangelistic Association (MTEA), missionary wing of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Malabar, on the riverbed of the Pampa at Maramon, its traditional venue.

In a statement on Saturday, Fr. George Abraham Kottanadu, MTEA general secretary, said the 123rd annual meet would begin with a prayer to be led by the Metropolitan Emeritus Philipose Mar Chrysostum at 2.30 p.m. on February 11. Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan, head of the Mar Thoma Church, will inaugurate the week-long convention.

Main speakers

Bishop Peter David Easton from Florida, Soritta Nababan from Indonesia, Francis Sunderraj from Chennai, R. Rajkumar from Delhi, and Vinod Victor from Thiruvananthapuram, all renowned evangelists, will be the main speakers at this year’s convention, says Fr. Kottanadu.

Geevarghese Mar Athanaseus Saffragan Metropolitan, Geevarghese Mar Theodoseus, Joseph Mar Barnabas, Thomas Mar Themotheus, Issac Mar Peelexinos, Abraham Mar Paulose, Mathews Mar Makarios, Gregorios Mar Stephanos, and Thomas Mar Theethos, all bishops attached to the Mar Thoma Church, will be the other speakers.
