The Mar Baselios College of Engineering and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, with 101 points, looks set to win the overall crown at the Kerala University Youth Festival with a lead of 15 points over its nearest rival as results of 58 of the total 81 events were out.
But a late charge from Mar Ivanios College, Thiruvananthapuram, could still topple them from that top spot, which they have held on to ever since the festival began earlier this week.
K.S. Arjun from Mar Baselios College is the top contender for the Kalaprathibha crown, having won first place in Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathakali, and folk dance. But the Kalathilakam crown is a two-way fight which can be decided only after the appeals are disposed of on Sunday. The contenders are M.G. Arya of VTM NSS College who won the first place in Kathaprasangam and light music and the third place in Mappilappattu and S. Mahalekshmi of Mar Ivanios College, who won the mimicry competition and came second in Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, and Kathaprasangam.
The city colleges continued to maintain the lead in the points table on the penultimate day, hogging the top nine places on the list.
The Government Women’s College, Thiruvananthapuram, remained in third position with 62 points. College of Engineering Thiruvananthapuram which was in the top 3 on the first two days, slipped to fourth with 43 points, with no hopes of gaining its position in the list.
