The Kerala Amateur Astronomers Organisation (AASTRO Kerala) will organise a scientific lecture and sky observation programmes on Thursday in connection with the ‘India March for Science’ scheduled to be held on August 9.
R.V.G. Menon, educationist, will deliver the keynote address at the programme, to be held at the Kerala State Science and Technology Museum (KSSTM) at PMG at 5.30 p.m.
For perhaps the first time, the scientific community in India will take to the streets for the cause of science on August 9.
The aim is to restore the stature of science in the country to what it was in the Nehruvian era. The march is a follow-up to the ‘Global march for science’ held across the world on April 22.
A number of programmes are being held across the country as a prelude to the August 9 event.
The programme on Thursday will include an introduction to stars, sky gazing through telescope, and a class on astrology.
Participants will be able to view the rings of Saturn and the moons of Jupiter through the telescope. They will also get be introduced to the constellation Scorpius and get an opportunity to admire the beauty of the Milky Way.
