‘Make right to health a fundamental right’

April 06, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:17 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The Right to Health Protection Council organised a convention here on Tuesday demanding that Right to Health be made a fundamental right and that the government take over the responsibility of providing free medicines for all chronic conditions.

Several doctors, public health experts, and social activists spoke at the meeting.

Though the State Assembly elections have been declared, none of the political parties seem to be interested in raising issues of health protection, which is the issue of utmost concern for the public, the convention said.

Allocation

At least 10 per cent of the State budget should be set aside for health sector and the government should ensure quality and equity in medical care for all persons in society, the convention demanded.

‘State should take over responsibility of providing medicines for all chronic conditions.’
