DPRs of Light Metro for ₹4,219 crore prepared, works from this year

The capital city gets considerable focus in the State Budget for the year 2017-18 presented by Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac on Friday.

Major allocations have been made for the development of various city roads. The Mannanthala-Powdikonam Road and Pazhakutty-Mangalapuram Road get ₹200 crore each.

An amount of ₹100 crore has been set aside for the Vattiyurkavu Junction development.

The East Fort-Manacaud (Attakulangara) flyover gets an allocation of ₹30 crore. The Manacaud-Attukal Temple Road gets ₹30 crore and the Vithura-Bonakkad Road gets ₹35 crore. While the Karamana-Nedunkadu Kalady Road gets ₹20 crore, the Pallimukku-Medical College Road gets ₹25 crore.

An allocation of ₹25 crore has been set aside for the bridge across Vellayani Lake-Kakkamoola Bund Road. The Sivagiri Thoduvepalam-Sivagiri Palam approach road gets an allocation of ₹30 crore.

Detailed project reports of Thiruvananthapuram Light Metro for ₹4,219 crore has been prepared and the construction will start this year.

An amount of ₹22 crore has been set aside for developing the present cargo port as the feeder port of the Vizhinjam International Port. An amount ₹96 crore has been earmarked for the establishment of Life Science Park at Thiruvananthapuram.

Master plan for MCH

A master plan for Thiruvananthapuram Medical College has been submitted. For the first phase of this project, KIIFB will invest ₹400 crore.

An amount of ₹49 crore has been provided for the construction of different government offices in the district.

Steps will be taken to create one more Revenue Division in Thiruvananthapuram.

Coastal Shipping and Inland Navigation Department gets ₹128 crore and a total amount of ₹70 crore is earmarked for Kovalam-Kollam, Kozhikode-Vadakara, and Vadakara-Mahe canals.

Drinking water

In drinking water projects, the Thiruvananthapuram Neyyar Alternative Source gets an allocation of ₹150 crore. The Karode Comprehensive Drinking Water Project gets ₹86-crore allocation. For the treated drinking water project, including Kottukal and Athiyannur panchayats, ₹25 crore has been allocated.

Outlay for culture

An amount of ₹50 lakh has been earmarked for the cultural activities on Manaveeyam Veedhi. An amount of ₹15 crore is set apart for encouraging and propagating Nishagandhi dance and music festivals and Onam celebration.

An amount of ₹8 crore is allocated as the last instalment for the completion of the convention centre of Sree Narayana Dharma Sangham Trust at Sivagiri.

The University of Kerala gets an allocation of ₹ 26 crore. The schools in the district recommended by MLAs to be upgraded as centres of excellence are Aryanad Government VHSS, Attingal; Government BHSS; Pattom Girls Government H.S.S; Varkala Government HSS; Nedumangad Government GHSS; Venjaramood Government HSS; Kazhakuttam Government HSS; Manakkad Government GHSS; Marayamuttam Government HSS; Malayinkeezhu Government GHSS; Balaramapuram Government HSS; and Neyyattinkara Government HSS.

The schools included in the first phase of the second scheme under general education for the betterment of infrastructure facilities are Kulathur Government V& HSS; Vellanad Government V&HSS; Vattiyurkavu Government V&HSS; Kallara Government VHSS; Njekkad Government VHSS; Cotton Hill Government GHSS; Venganur Model HSS; Kamaleswaram Government HSS; Kulathur Government HSS (Kazhakuttam); Bharathannur Government HSS; Kanyakulangara Government GHSS; Thonnakkal Government HSS; Attingal Government GHSS; Kilimanur Government HSS; and Mithrumala Government BHSS.
