LDF to discuss Aruvikkara by-poll

Seat used to be allotted to RSP, which has moved to the UDF

April 25, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The State committee of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) will discuss the Aruvikkara Assembly by-election at its meeting here on Saturday.

The meeting would decide which party should contest the by-poll. Aryanad, which has transformed into Aruvikkara with the delimitation of Assembly constituencies, used to be allotted to the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP). In the 2011 Assembly election, the late G. Karthikeyan had defeated RSP candidate Ambalathara Sreedharan Nair in the constituency and in the 2006 election, he defeated the present RSP general secretary T.J. Chandrachoodan.

Now that the RSP is out of the LDF, the CPI(M) is very likely to take over the seat. However, any such move would be formalised only after discussion at the LDF committee meeting.

The LDF panel is also likely to take stock of the political situation, particularly the increasing confusion within the UDF following fresh revelations relating to the bar bribery row.
