KRFB to ensure roads are completed soon

July 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The Kerala Road Fund Board (KRFB) has stepped in to ensure that the overlay of the roads developed into world class in Phase I is completed soon and to complete the remaining works in two months.

The intervention of the KRFB comes after the Thiruvananthapuram Road Development Company Ltd (TRDCL), the concessionaire of the City Road Improvement Project (CRIP) stopped the much-delayed relaying work of the Kowdiar-Vellayambalam-RR Lamp-Palayam-MLA Hostel-Airport Road.

The concessionaire commenced the relaying work in the Corridor I and IV but stopped it all of a sudden. In RR Lamp, two levels prevail in the road as the work was stopped in midway.

The non-availability of the hot-mix plant, priority for other urgent works like Melepazhavangady flyover and the onset of the monsoon are cited as the reasons.

The KRFB Chief Executive Officer, P. C. Harikesh said they were aware of the problems being faced by the road users in the CRIP corridors on account of the lack of repairs due to wear and tear and damaged caused by pipe bursts and digging for laying cables.

Notices have been given to the TRDCL pinpointing all cases that have come to our notice in the various corridors, he said.

The work was taken up as the roads developed under CRIP in the BOT annuity mode into world class in the first phase- 2006-2007- are into mid-way of the 15-year maintenance contract.

The TRDCL has also been asked to complete all the remaining works in the 10 CRIP corridors in the next two months.

“We have cleared all the hurdles in the corridors that have been pointed to us. Some are remaining. But, we have asked the TRDCL to complete the remaining works as if where is condition. We cannot drag the project any further”, he added.
