Kochi school tops city-level quiz

National finals on October 6

Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Eroor, Ernakulam, has won the 10th edition of the Wild Wisdom Quiz city-level competition.

The competition, organised by the WWF-India, in partnership with the Central Board of Secondary Education on Thursday, saw 43 school teams take part in the junior category (classes 3 to 5) and 42 teams in the middle category (classes 6 to 8).

The auditorium at St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Pattom, the venue of the quiz, was packed with participants, their parents, and accompanying teachers.

In the junior category, the initial preliminary written round was attended by all teams. The five toppers made it to the quiz. Adnan Nishad and Aswas R. from Jyothis Central School, Kazhakuttam, emerged the winners in this category. Abraham Tharakan and Indranil Menon from Devamatha Senior Secondary School, Thrissur, and Ameya Madhavan V. and Niharika R. Menon from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Poochatty, bagged the second and third position, respectively.

In the middle category, Siddharth Renjith and Udaya Paul from Bharatiya Vidya Mandir, Eroor, Ernakulam, bagged the top spot. Gopu Gireesh and Jeremiah Mathew Darvy from Vimala Public School, Thodupuzha, and Hrudayesh R. Krishnan and Thamanna Hari from St. Thomas Higher Secondary School, Mukkola, bagged the second and third place, respectively.

Anjana Parameswaram from Thrissur was the quiz master.

Padma Mahanty, Director, Department of Environment and Climate Change, was the chief guest. An IFS officer, she shared her experience of how visits to forests could be a learning experience. She encouraged the students to visit nearby forests and learn through direct observation and interaction with nature.

She also gave away prizes to the winners, including that for the best performing school and teacher in-charge, which was bagged by St John’s School, Thumbamon.

Renjan Mathew Varghese, State Director, WWF-India, and A.K. Sivakumar, Senior Education Officer, WWF volunteers and student volunteers from the NSS Unit of St. Mary’s School were present.

The winning team of Siddharth Renjith and Udaya Paul will travel to New Delhi to compete with other city-level winners in the national finals to be held at the WWF-India Secretariat on October 6.
