Karunakaran birth centenary celebrations

A.K. Balan, Kanam to represent LDF

Minister for Culture A.K. Balan and Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary Kanam Rajendran will represent the Left Democratic Front (LDF) at the inauguration of the birth centenary celebrations of the late Congress leader K. Karunakaran on Wednesday.

Congress Working Committee member and the senior-most Congress leader in Kerala A.K. Antony will inaugurate the year-long centenary fete at the Nishagandhi open-air auditorium here.

Opposition deputy leader M.K. Muneer will also attend the function.

K. Karunakaran Foundation chairman and Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala said the foundation would publish the Assembly speeches of the “leader” from 1945 to 1995. The foundation will organise seminars on the theme ‘K. Karunakaran and Kerala’ in Kochi, Thrissur, Kozhikode and Kannur.

A reception committee will be set up in each of the 14 districts under the chairmanship of the respective DCC president. AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Dr. Pranab Mukherjee are expected to attend the function.
