District Collector Biju Prabhakar has directed the illegal tenants of the Nalanda Working Women’s Hostel to vacate the premises after clearing their dues within three days.

According to an official press release, Mr. Prabhakar said that a detailed report had been submitted to the government after the Buildings wing of the Public Works Department (PWD) had examined the existing complaints pertaining to the tenants.

The probe brought to light several violation of rules.

While there were some who continued to reside in the hostel after retirement, there were others who provided their allotted rooms to others on rent after shifting to other places without formally informing the authorities concerned.

There were also cases in which tenants accommodated many guests in their rooms. Some had gone on deputation and some transferred to other places without vacating their rooms.

The inspections also revealed that many resided in the rooms along with their family members.

Besides failing to ensure proper hygiene in the allotted rooms, some tenants have also been found to be using electrical items such as heaters, fridges, televisions, induction cookers and iron boxes in violation of the rules.

LPG cylinders

Some have also stored LPG cylinders in their rooms for cooking.

On the basis of the report, the government has approved the recommendation for evicting illegal tenants by deploying revenue, PWD and police officials.

Three days

The action will be adopted against those who failed to vacate from the rooms within three days.
