“Any attempt to ignore the holistic vision of Gandhi will be suicidal,” Jnanpith award winner and poet O.N.V. Kurup has said.
He was speaking at the release of the book 10 volume Ikeda Study Series authored by N. Radhakrishnan at the Gandhi Bhavan here on Friday.
Mr. Kurup said the fact that Gandhi continued to inspire philosophers, social, political and human right activists, and the declaration of October 2 as International Day of Non-violence by the United Nations was testimony to Gandhi’s growing influence on humanity.
“It is a pity that we as a nation ignored Gandhi in the post-Independence era. If Gandhi’s vision and strivings were taken seriously, the picture of today’s world would have been different,” he said.
Interpreting Gandhi
Humanist and peace activist Daisaku Ikeda had been interpreting Gandhi in the light of the emerging realities of today. His contribution to the reconstruction of the war-torn and atom bomb-ravaged Japan had been universally acclaimed. Everyone who cared for peace, solidarity, human rights, and ecological balance should learn from the honest efforts of Mr. Ikeda, who had been striving to bring humanity together through poetry and education, Mr. Kurup said.
