Close to 300 sovereigns of gold ornaments have been reported stolen from the Pangode Residents’ Cooperative Society at Edappazhanji in Thiruvananthapuram.
The Circle Inspector of Police Museum Mohanan Nair told The Hindu that the robbers seemed to have entered the building by cutting open the window bars. “They seem to have used a gas cutter or such other similar equipment. They also cut open the safe in which the gold was kept,” he said.
The break-in was noticed at around 10 a.m. on Monday morning when a staff member came to sweep the building. “Initially the society staff estimated that about 120 sovereigns of gold ornaments had been stolen, they later told the police that about 300 sovereigns were missing,” he said. More than Rs. 1 lakh in cash was also missing, he said, adding the police have launched an investigation.
