A teenaged girl drowned and her male friend is missing in the sea at Azhimala, a few kilometres away from the tourist spot of Kovalam, Vizhinjam police said.
According to police, Sajini (19) of Nedumangad and Unni (21) of Marappalam were reportedly seen by locals sitting on a rock, a thrashing point for the waves, on the seaside at Azhimala. They were swept into the sea by the waves around 1.45 p.m.
The Coast Guard, Coastal Police and locals managed to trace the body of Sajini shortly after the incident, while attempts were still on to trace Unni when reports last came in.
