The department-quota candidates who were recruited by the Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) for the post of District Educational Officer (DEO) were awarded certificates after the competition of a one-year training programme at the State Institute of Educational Management and Training (SIEMAT)-Kerala.
SIEMAT director E. Valsalakumar handed over the certificates to the four candidates at a function held at the SIEMAT headquarters recently, a statement issued by the institute said.
Apart from the department-quota candidates selected from the Education Department, nine candidates recruited directly by the PSC are also undergoing training at the SIEMAT. The training programme for these candidates will take another six months to complete, the statement said.
This is the second direct recruitment of DEOs by the PSC. Earlier, it was held in 1991. Mr. Valsalakumar said the training programme for DEOs is one of the longest conducted by the SIEMAT. The course module includes responsibilities and activities of various officials in the Education Department, starting from the high school teacher to Director of Public Instruction (DPI). The nine-phase training programme also includes on-field training at schools and classes on national education policy.
