A 24-hour-food safety control room operated by the Commissionerate of Food Safety was opened on Friday in connection with Attukal Pongala to ensure that only safe and hygienically made food and safe drinking water was provided to the devotees who attend the festival.

The control room was inaugurated by Commissioner of Food Safety Veena N. Madhavan. The temporary online registration facility for those intending to provide food, water or cold drinks to devotees during the festival is available at the control room. Those requiring the temporary registration should contact the control room with identity card, photograph and registration fee. Registrations will be provided immediately.

Food safety officials who examined 25 food production and distribution outlets in the festival zone on Friday, issued notices to four outlets which were functioning in unhygienic conditions, to improve their physical facilities immediately. Fine was imposed on two outlets.

Officials also issued immediate closure notice to Devan Fresh Juice outlet at Pazhavangadi which was found to be functioning in serious violation of the food safety norms. Public can call the toll free number 1800 425 1125 on issues relating to food safety.
