Fish workers’ pension to be hiked

Fishing village development scheme launched at Valiyaveli

Pension for fish workers will be enhanced to Rs.600 from the next financial year, Fisheries Minister K. Babu has said. Inaugurating the integrated fishing village development scheme at Valiyaveli here on Monday, he said efforts were on to clear the pension dues of fish workers within a week. He said the scrutiny of 7,500 applications for houses was slated to begin soon. Mr. Babu said the project to provide houses for 11,000 families in the coastal areas would commence by April.
