Farm science congress for children

The third Bala Krishi Shasthra Congress (Children's Farm Science Congress) will be held in the city on January 20 and 21.

The Agri Friends Krishi Samskarika Vedi is organising the event, in association with the Agriculture Department, the State Horticulture Mission, the Kerala State Council for Science Technology and Environment, and other agencies.

Agriculture Minister K.P. Mohanan released the brochure of the event at a function here recently. The theme of this edition of the congress is “Nammude Krishi” (“Our agriculture”).

Nearly 500 schoolchildren from across the State are expected to participate in the event.

Select research projects on agriculture prepared by the students will be presented in which agriculturists, researchers, and scientists from various institutions will participate.

Both individual and group projects prepared by students will be presented.

The projects will be categorised into three sections based on agriculture activities taken up at the school and community levels and at the individual initiative of the student. The student who wins the best individual project award will receive a cash prize of Rs.11,111.

Seven research projects presented by the school teams will be honoured at the event. The congress to be held at the Public Library Hall will include an agriculture expo and sale organised by students.

A team of five students and a teacher can participate from a school.
