A 39-year-old woman was arrested on Wednesday for posing as a doctor and running a hospital without mandatory qualifications at Chenkavila under the Pozhiyoor police station limits. The police said she had not studied beyond Plus Two.

S. Chandrakumar, Circle Inspector, Parassala, said Molgy, alias Rasheeda, a native of Panachumoodu, had been running the four-bed New Hospital at Chenkavila for four years. On Wednesday, the CI sent a constable in mufti as a patient with fever after he got a tip-off on the functioning of the hospital. The constable, who was asked to pay a fee of Rs.200, had his temperature and blood pressure examined and was given prescriptions for medicines.

The accused was arrested and produced in court on Wednesday. A team of health officials examined the prescriptions and medicines at the hospital before seizing and handing over them to the police. This was after the District Medical Officer was informed about the fake doctor, Mr. Chandrakumar said. The Pozhiyoor police have registered a case.
