The Ananthapuri Hindu Dharma Parishad, organisers of the annual Hindu Mahasammelanam in the city, has announced that it will organise a Ganeshotsavam as well alongside the conference, which will be at the Putharikandam grounds from August 22 to 31.

BJP leader O. Rajagopal said the way in which Ganesh Chathurthi was celebrated in the city had to be ‘based in temples rather than on the roadside.’ The Parishad would organise the festival, giving prominence to involvement of the public and by using eco-friendly clay idols, he said.

Artisans from Parassala would supply 10,000 clay Ganesh idols free of cost for the festival, which would be celebrated from 111 temples in the city, Mr. Rajagopal said. The puja would begin at 11 a.m. on August 22 from 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

The immersion procession would be from Chaka at 3 p.m. on August 31.
