Project officials of the City Roads Improvement Project (CRIP) claimed here on Wednesday that the Secretariat siege by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) had caused loss of Rs.18 lakh to the project.

They said almost half the landscape at Bakery junction beneath the flyover had been destroyed by LDF activists who participated in the stir. Landscape on the Nandavanam road had also been damaged.

The concessionaire, Thiruvananthapuram Road Development Company Ltd, said the landscape at Bakery junction had been destroyed and needed full replacement. The walls of the underpass and the flyover were also damaged. The walls needed a fresh coat of paint, sources said.

Saplings and tree guards on the Cantonment and AG’s office roadside had also been damaged, they said. Over 30 saplings at Bakery Junction were also removed by the protesters.

Acknowledging the Rs. 18 lakh damage caused to the CRIP corridors, Minister for Public Works V. K. Ebrahim Kunju said the TRDCL could levy the damage from those who organised the agitation.
