The BJP district president S. Suresh has accused Thiruvananthapuram Mayor V.K. Prasanth and the district leadership of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] of attempting to whip up tension by propagating false claims.

At a press conference, Mr. Suresh said the police victimised BJP leader V.G. Girikumar and other councillors by booking them for attempt to murder on the basis of false accusations. “They are victims of a conspiracy that has been hatched by the CPI(M). As seen in the visuals, Mr. Girikumar was trapped among the councillors and was manhandled by the Mayor and (councillor) I.P. Binu. CPI (M) councillor Rasia Beegum also sustained injuries after being assaulted by Binu,” he alleged.

‘Wrongfully accused’

He also claimed that Anand, a BJP worker, was also being wrongfully accused in the case. Mr. Suresh claimed that Anand had gone to the Corporation office as “any other member of the public”.

Mr. Suresh demanded that the Mayor must be subjected to a detailed examination by doctors of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and that the police action must be based on their report. He added that the party would organise demonstrations and meetings to sensitise the public of the alleged attempts being made by the CPI (M) to mislead them.
