Corpn plans drive to collect medical discards

The city Corporation will undertake a special drive to collect discarded tablet strips, medicine bottles and rags on Friday.

The discards will be collected from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at temporary counters that have been established at various points across the city. These include counters that have been set up near the Kazhakuttom ward committee office, Putharikandam ground, near the Elamkavu temple at Ulloor, near Sree Chitra Tirunal College of Engineering, Pappanamcode; Vanchiyoor junction, Pippinmoodu junction, near the Vattiyurkavu ward committee office, Theatre junction in Kovalam, in front of the Corporation office at Kadakampally, near the Corporation office at Thiruvallam, and near Sreekaryam market.

Aerobic composting

The waste items can also be handed over at Thumboormuzhi model aerobic composting bins and the resource recovery centres.

Other medical wastes, including syringe and needles, and those generated at hospitals will not be accepted at the collection counters, according to an official release.
