Colonel A. Rajiv has taken charge as Principal of Sainik School, here. Accordinng to a press note issued here, this was the first time that an alumnus of the school had taken charge as Principal.
Col. Rajiv, who hails from Thiruvananthapuram, passed out of Sainik School in 1990.
NDA passout
Col. Rajiv belongs to the 85th course of the National Defence Academy (NDA) and passed out of the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in 1994. He was commissioned into 1st Naga Regiment and was actively involved in various military operations in Assam. In 1999, his unit was moved to the war zone in Mushkoh Valley at Kargil for operation Vijay.
Earlier posting
In 2001, Col. Rajiv was posted to Sainik School Balachadi as the Registrar.
In 2004, he joined the Army Educational Corps and in 2007 he did the Group Testing Officer (GTO) course.
The officer was appointed as a GTO from 2007 to 2010 and was awarded the Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card for distinguished service in 2012.
RTI Cell
Before taking over charge as Principal of Sainik School, Kazhakuttam, he was the Director of RTI Cell in Delhi, looking after the RTI matters of the Indian Army. Col. Rajiv is the son of G. Aravindakshan Nair and K Leela Kumari.
The officer is married to Asha Rajiv Nair, lawyer.
They have a daughter, Shilpa, and a son, Arvind.
