Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said that the case against Thiruvananthapuram MG College students, T.R. Adarsh and others, were withdrawn on humanitarian considerations.
Mr. Adarsh had been implicated in a case of attack on a police officer on the college campus. Mr. Adarsh, who had just been discharged from hospital following major surgeries, had been to the college with assistance since he was short of attendance to appear for the examination. He could not run away when violence erupted and the police took him into custody with the other students.
Though he had produced medical records, the investigating officers did not drop charges against him. Mr. Adarsh had got selection as a Civil Police Officer and he could not get appointment as a case was pending against him. So, he had represented the matter to the Chief Minister through Palode Ravi, MLA, he said. The government decided to withdraw the case against him on the basis of legal advice and it was withdrawn with the permission of the court. The case against all 17 accused in the case was withdrawn as withdrawal of case against just one of them was not possible, Mr. Chandy said.
