City to be ODF

Thiruvananthapuram city will be declared Open Defecation Free (ODF) on March 24. The decision was taken at a meeting of Thiruvananthapuram Corporation on Thursday.

The meeting reviewed the ongoing activities, undertaken under the Swachh Bharat Mission, to rid the city of open defecation. Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran and Thiruvananthapuram Mayor V.K. Prasanth took part in the discussions.

The meeting noted that a survey found that a total of 4,100 houses in the city required toilets and that all beneficiaries have entered into agreements with the corporation.

Financial aid

The first instalment of the financial assistance, provided for constructing toilets, have been disbursed among 3,727 families.

The remaining 373 beneficiaries will receive the amount within two days.
