Child rights commission directive

The State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights has sought reports from the Ernakulam Range IG, Ernakulam District Collector, and the District Child Protection Officer about an incident wherein a 16-year-old Dalit orphan boy, who had been taken into police custody in relation with a theft case, was allegedly beaten up by the police.

The commission intervened following a complaint by the Director of Childline, Ernakulam, that the boyhad suffered torture at the hands of the police. The case will be taken up by the commission on June 1.
